REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Nusa Kambangan Correctional Institute on the Nusa Kambangan Island, Cilacap District, Central Java, is planning a cattle breeding project on a 20-hectare area with annual production of 14 thousand slaughter cows.
The cattle breeding will be conducted through a public-private partnership (KPBU) scheme, according to Director General of Correctional Institute of the Law and Human Right Ministry, I Wayan K. Dusak, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the project on Monday.
He said that any corporate bodies or investors will be allowed to be a part of the breeding business. "As per our calculation, the ranch could produce 14 thousand slaughter cows per annum," he added.
Dusak said the project was now in the stage of public marketing, and an auction will be held for companies interested to be part of the business. The realization of the 14 thousand cattle business is expected to start next year.
The Nusa Kambangan correctional institute is expected to run the ranch as cow production center with a target of 14 thousand slaughter cows per annum in Central Java. Dusak said Nusa Kambangan has an area of 24 thousand hectares on the island, of which 20 hectares will be used as production center.
There are about 1,200 inmates in the Nusa Kambangan penitentiary. They will be given training on how to handle cattle breeding. The training quality will be adjusted according to the request of the corporate bodies and the directorate general of correctional institute.
