REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Movement to Safeguard the Indonesian Council of Ulama's Fatwa (GNPF MUI) urged the law enforcement officers to arrest suspect of alleged blasphemy, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok). It has became more urgent after the Aksi Bela Islam III was held on Friday (12/2) at the National Monument (Monas), Central Jakarta.
The Advisory of GNPF MUI, Habib Novel Alaydrus bin Muhammad said the law enforcement officers should see the sacrifice of the rally on Friday. The participants flocked wholeheartedly from all over the region to support the effort to imprisoned the suspect of the alleged religious blasphemy. "Ahok should have been in custody at that time," he said to Reuters, in Jakarta (12/6).
Novel worried that people may do violence as they are disappointed with the process of Ahok's case. For example, Ahok will come to the court guided by his bodyguard due to the electoral processes. Novel hoped that the violence and riot would not happen.
That is why, in his opinion, Ahok should be arrested. By coming to the court as prisoner, the riot would be avoided. "If he do not get special safeguards, there will be a clash. Therefore we demand his imprisonment, "said Novel.
Novel said the suspect was the candidate of gubernatorial election in 2017. There could be many political agendas that can be used by Ahok to escape from the scheduled trial.
"That is why; he has to be arrested. He will be busy doing campaign, he will have so many agendas so that the main agendas could be skipped," he said.
Novel said there could be many alibis to skip the trial, such as doing the campaign, health issues, or etc. It would make the trial run longer than it should be. "There will be many a reason for stalling, we do not want it. Health issues, personal business, political agendas, it will be detrimental to Muslims who wanted law enforcement," he said again.
"No more tolerance, no more bargain, Ahok should be put into custody." Novel added.
