REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Australia need to continue cooperation in the defense field to address challenges that threaten security stability in the Indo-Pacific region, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson said. 

For its part, the two countries need to frequently hold a bilateral meeting between the two countries' defense ministers like the one held at the Fleet Base East Garden Island, Sydney, Australia, on March 16, he said here on Monday. "I think the two countries can jointly benefit from the defense cooperation," he said.

Regular meetings held to discuss the common interests of the two countries also serve as a means to share sciences and experiences to address a wide range of global challenges in the defense field, he said.

"So it is very important for the two countries to continue to cooperate. That is the important point of the meeting between the two defense ministers," he said.

At the meeting Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu and his Australian counterpart, Marise Payne discussed bilateral cooperation and global security dynamics. 

The discussion of bilateral cooperation covers cooperation in the maritime field, defense industry and science and technology, according to the Public Information Center of the Indonesian Defense Ministry.
