House of Representatives hold a discussion with Online Drivers Association

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a public hearing with the Online Drivers Association (ADO) in Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (March 29). It was held to respond the previous clashed between online and conventional drivers. 

The Deputy Chairman of Commission V Lasarus said the public hearing aimed at listening to the aspiration of online drivers to seek a win-win solution for the problems between online and conventional drivers in Indonesia. “In order to refrain, let us talk together. Don’t seek for income by killing each other,” said him.

Lasarus said the online and conventional drivers and businessmen had important roles in seeking the best resolution of the problems. The existence of both kinds of transportation was also important. He hoped that both drivers would not be a victim of the system in transportation business. The House of Representatives would make an ideal regulation to ensure the online and conventional drivers would not have the disadvantages of the new system applied. 

According to Lasarus, the aspiration of online drivers would be accepted by the commission. It would be transferred to the government, especially the Ministry of Transportation. The commission also conducted a meeting with the director general of land transportation in the ministry of transportation in the same day.

The Chairman of ADO, Christiansen Ferry Wilmar, said there were some aspiration delivered in the public hearing, among others was the need of legal basis for two-wheeled online transportation. 

“We observe that there are frictions in some area, including Tangerang, Bandung, and Bogor. We want to deliver our aspiration that there are not any legal basis for two-wheeled online drivers,” he said. 

He added that the revision of Transportation Minister Regulation No. 32 in 2016 only stated about the four-wheeled transportation. He hoped that the two-wheeled would be legitimated.
