REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Ambassador of the United States to Indonesia, Joseph R Donovan Jr, said that his side would like to invest in South Sumatra as this province has quite a large potential in the energy sector.

The US envoy, after meeting the South Sumatra's governor Alex Noerdin here on Tuesday, stated that the reason his country was interested to invest in this province was because of the development of a special economic zone in the Banyuasin District's area of Tanjung Api Api of South Sumatra.

According to the ambassador, his side will encourage US companies, especially those in Indonesia, to invest in South Sumatra, in an effort to develop its potential.

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has also been cooperating with the US in empowering the community's economy, he pointed out.
