Police to examine witnesses in alleged coup plot case

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The investigator of Jakarta Metro Police have named some witnesses in alleged coup plot involved the Secretary General of Muslims Forum (FUI) Muhammad Al Khaththath. 

"Investigators will administer the witnesses to be summoned,” said the Spokesperson of Jakarta Metro Police Commissioner Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono in Jakarta on Thursday (April 6). 

Argo said police investigators had pre-reconstruction processes in the alleged coup plot meeting location in Kalibata (South Jakarta) and Menteng (Central Jakarta). Police said they already have the information on who came to the meeting and what was discussed. 

Argo said police had not named any new suspect. The case was still in police investigation.

He added that the suspects involved in a direct communication to hostile the Parliament building in order to overthrow the legitimate Indonesian government. A number of activists had also planned simultaneous demonstration in five big cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar and Yogyakarta. 

Five activists has been arrested by Jakarta Metro Police in allegation of coup plot on Friday (March 31). They were the General Secretary of FUI Muhammad Al Khaththath, Zainuddin Arsyad, Irwansrah, Veddrik Nugraha alias Dikho and Marad Fachri Said alias Andre. 

They were charged by using Article 107 juncto 110 of the Criminal Code on coup plot. Veddrik and Marad also been charged with Article 16 of Law No. 40 year 2008 on Eradication of Racial and Ethnical Discrimination.
