REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU – Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG) Pekanbaru Station detected two hotspots indicated as forest and land fire in Riau on Thursday (April 6). "Two hotspots are monitored in Bengkalis,” said the Head of BMKG Pekanbaru, Sugarin.

He said the hotspots with more than 50 percent trust level were monitored from Terra and Aqua satellite on Thursday at 16.00 p.m. It was located in Bukit Batu District.

According to Sugarin, none of the hotspots were indicated as firespots or had strong indication of land fire. The level trust was 70 percent.

Antara wrote that it was the first hotspots monitored this week after two other hotspots were monitored last week in Pelalawan and Rokan Hulu. Sugarin said rain with light to medium intensity potentially fall in Riau.

Sugarin said, on April, Riau would be safe from any fire potency. However, there would be a transition on May. Dry season was predicted to come on September 2017.

He said the government needed to be aware as minimum potential rainfall might arose the forest and land fire.

During the upcoming May to September, the wind pattern would change from south to north. It meant, when there was a forest fire, the smoke would run to the neighboring country.

Previously, Riau Governor named the emergency status for the smoke disaster caused by the forest and land fire on 2017. It was effective for 96 days, started from Apri 30.

Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that more than 300 hectares of land in Riau were burnt during the first trimester of 2017.

Official units keep trying to prevent forest and land fire by increasing integrated patrols and developed channel bulkheads.
