Java, Sumatra house most non-agricultural businesses: BPS

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Central Bureau of Statistics, through the initial results of the 2016 Economic Census registrations, has recorded a total of 79.35 percent of national non-agricultural businesses to be centered in Sumatra and Java.

In a press briefing, in which the initial results of the 2016 Economic Census was launched, Head of the Bureau Suhariyanto said that there are 16.2 million registered businesses located in Java, which makes up 60.74 percent of the total number of companies in Indonesia.

From the 16.3 million businesses, 15.9 million are micro and small corporations, while 291 thousand are larger businesses.

Meanwhile, the number of businesses in the eastern region of the country, which include Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, have reached 5.5 million companies, which is 20.65 percent of the total number.
