REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu is set to see off the export of the second Indonesian-made warship to the Philippines on Tuesday.

Shipbuilding company PT PAL Indonesia originally planned to deliver the warship by mid-April but later decided to deliver it early in May to adjust to the programs of several officials, spokesman for the company Bayu Witjaksono said here on Monday.

However, the delivery is a month ahead of the June 2017 deadline, he stated.

"The punctual production and delivery of the warship is a special note and an added value that PT PAL Indonesia offers to the ordering country," he noted.

He remarked that the Philippines undersecretary of defense and several naval officials will attend the ceremony.

The Philippines has placed an order for two warships Landing Platform Dock (LPD) of Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV) type to PT PAL Indonesia. The warships are equipped with sophisticated weaponry, a helipad for three helicopters, and a hangar facility.

SSV-2 can carry two units of landing craft utility (LCU) ships and various types of fighting vehicles ranging from military truck to amphibious assault vehicle (AAV).

With a ship draft of 5 meters, the second warship can reach shallow waters and function as a floating hospital and for search and rescue in case of disasters.

The first warship was launched on Jan 18, 2016, and arrived in Manila on May 13, 2016.
