REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Public Works and Housing Ministry is studying development of new toll road in Batam, 25 kilometer long between Batu Ampar Port and Hang Nadim International Airport via Muka Kuning.

The project would be offered to private companies as a national strategy under the presidential regulation No. 3 of 2016, chief spokesman of the ministry Endra S. Atmawidjaja said here on Monday. 

The toll road project would facilitate transport of goods between the industrial estate of Muka Kuning, Batu Ampar and the Hang Nadim.

It will also reduce traffic jams in cross roads, and to provide separate lanes for heavy and light transport vehicles for convenience and safety. 

The toll road would be built as parallel with an existing arterial road, which will also to be expanded. The non toll road would be expanded to 11.6 meter wide. 

Flyovers would be built in five cross roads including Simpang Punggur (310 m), Simpang Kda(123 m), Simpang Kabil (430 m), Simpang Jam (165 m) and Jalan Sudirman (150 m).

The Simpang Jam flyover is to be completed this year. Currently it is already 59.43 percent completed. Construction already started since late 2015 with a budget of Rp180 billion. 

"Next year we plan to start construction of the Simpang flyover. The distance between Simpang Jam and Simpang Kabil is only 3 kilometers," head of the National Road Implementation of Area III Junaidi said. 

Junaidi said the Simpang Jam flyover would be a new icon for the city of Batam as its wall would be artistically built with lamps.
