REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Hospital Information System (SIRS) of Dharmais Hospital for Cancer was infected by ransomware cyber attack. However, the Spokesperson Chaeruddin insisted that the institution refused to pay ransom after 61 computers get infected. 

“We don’t want to pay the ransom. Dharmais Hospital is a government institution, it has budget. If we give ransom, how will we count it?” said Chaeruddin in West Jakarta on Tuesday (May 16). 

Chaeruddin said only 60 among 600 computers infected by the ransomware. Fortunately it was not service computers, but the personal computers of the staffs. He said the rest 540 computers work well. The hospital still able to give services to the patients. The institution has three backup servers. 

Hundred patients in Dharmais Hospital queued as the ransomware made a trouble in the SIRS. Republika.co.id observation showed a banner said that the hospital’s computers were attacked by viruses was set on the registration and services area. The registration was opened at 10.00 a.m on Tuesday (May 16). It was usually opened at 07.00 a.m. during the day services.

The cyber attack was massively spread. It attacked the critical resources. Wanna Decryptor or 'WannaCry' targeted health institutions. But, the viruses recently spread to the private institutions. 

Ransomware was malicious software or malware attacked the computers by locking the computer or encrypted the files so it could not be accessed. WannaCry was a new type of ransomware targeted Windows based PC which the disadvantage laid on its Server Message Block (SMB).
