REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR -- Indonesia and Sweden agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sector. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said similar international politics of both countries create the chance for more cooperations.
In a press conference with Sweden King Carl XVI Gustaf in the Presidential Palace, Bogor, West Java, Jokowi said Indonesia and Sweden had many similarities of international politics. Both countries had active roles in being UN Peace Troops, supporting Palestinian Independence, and having trilateral cooperation to help Palestine since 2015.
"We emphasize peaceful resolution to the conflicts. These can be a capitalized assets," said Jokowi in Bogor on Monday (May 22).
Responding to Jokowi's statement, King Carl XVI Gustaf stated a same perception. The King said the cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden could be realized by similar fundamental values of both countries.
"This colaboration based on fundamental values we implemented, like democration, freedom of speech, and tolerance," said King Carl XVI Gustaf.
King Carl XVI Gustaf appreciated massive infrustructure and energy development by Indonesian government. The policy was argued to be the best investation for Indonesian future. It was also a good chance for cooperation.
Both countries also talked about environmental issues, especially on forest management. King Carl XVI Gustaf said sustainable forest management was an important issue for Sweden, as well as Indonesia.
"Sweden had a long-term and sustainable commitment for it, for having long-term cooperation for world's forest," King Carl XVI Gustaf said.
