REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BLORA – The panel of judges in Blora District Court, Central Java, convicted three years of imprisonment to the author of Jokowi Undercover, Bambang Tri Mulyono, on Monday (May 29). He was proven to spread hate speech through his book. 

The trial was led by the Chairman of panels of judges Makmurin Kusumastuti and member of Judges Dwi Ananda FW and Rr. Endang Dewi Nugraheni. Dafit Supriyanto and Hariyono became the public prosecutors. 

During the verdict reading, Bambang seemed to be calm. He was proven to intentionally and without any rights spread information to raise hatred and individual hostility based on ethnics, religions, races and groups. 

He violated article 28 verse 2 jo article 45a verse 2 of Law No. 19 iin 2016 on the amendment of Law No. 11 in 2008 on Information and Electronic Transaction jo article 64 verse 1 of the Criminal Code jo Law No. 8 in 1981. 

"Therefore, panels of judges decided to convict three years of imprisonment,” said Makmurin.

It was reduced by the length of the detention period that had been subjected to Bambang. In bringing the sentence down, the judges consider the weighting reason, such as the act was subjected to the Indonesian president as a state leader. It had made troubles among the society, while the defendant act impolitely in the trial and felt innocent. 

There were also some relieving, among them that the defendant had never been punished. He was also a backbone of his family. 

The sentence was lower than the prosecutor’s request who demanded four years of imprisonment. Bambang said he would take an appeal on the verdict. The prosecutor said to consider, while the lawyer said to assist Bambang until the end of the trial.
