REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo denied the he had threatened to walk-out from the bill discussion of Law on General Election. It was stated in the follow up meeting on Monday (June 19).

According to Tjahjo, the government consistently wanted to finished the bill of Law on General election by deliberation as wanted by all the House of Representatives (DPR)'s fractions. “Did I say something threatening? No, please ask the people who told I was threatening. I said the government wants a deliberation,” said Tjahjo in Jakarta on Monday (June 19).

However, the government consistently wanted the presidential threshold to be 20 percents of total DPR quotas or 25 percents of all national valid votes. It was suitable with the instruction of President Joko Widodo to increase the quality of democracy.

He said government's consistency was not a way to set single candidate in General Election 2019. The same ratio was used in 2009 and 2014. There were five candidates in 2009 and two in 2014.

Tjahjo asserted that the government was optimistic on the discussion of five crucial issues. The most important was that it was not deadlock.

“If it cannot be, we will bring it to the plenary. If it was deadlock, there are governmental options. The most important is that at least 1 Octover it will not disrupt the stages of presidential election,” said Tjahjo.
