Hasanuddin airport records spike in passangers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- The number of air travelers flying to and from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, rose 11.2 percent six days ahead of the Eid al-Fitr festivities compared to the same period last year.

"The number of air passengers rose by more than 11 percent to reach 36,951 six days ahead of the festivities as compared to 33,243 in the same period last year," Turah Ajiari, head of the public relations and legal section of the state airport operator for Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, stated on Tuesday.

As compared to the previous day, the number of air passengers increased by one percent on Tuesday. The number of air passengers jumped by 20 percent as compared to the week before.

The number of domestic passengers increased 18.4 percent to 17,125 in 2017 from 14,463 last year.

The number of passengers departing from the airport six days ahead of Lebaran this year increased 2.6 percent to reach 12,722 from 12,394 in the same period last year.

He said the number of passengers arriving from other countries almost doubled to 209 in 2017 from 107 in 2016.

The number of domestic flights to and from the airport reached 166 and 145 respectively, as compared to 144 and 165 in the same period last year.
