REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Supreme Court (MA) has turned down a cassation request filed by Jessica Kumala Wongso, a murder convict who was last year sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Central Jakarta District Court.

MA spokesman Suhadi announced the decision on Wednesday.

The decision was made by Artidjo Alkostar, as the panel chief, and Salman Luthan and Sumardiyatmo, as the members respectively.

Last March, the Jakarta High Court had also turned down an appeal by Wongso.

Wongso was found guilty of poisoning her friend, Wayan Mirna Salihin, on January 6, 2016. Salihin died after drinking a Vietnamese ice coffee that had been ordered by Wongso at the Olivier Cafe, Grand Indonesia Mall.

Her trial took place in the Central Jakarta District Court from June 15 to October 27, 2016. The court's judge panel declared Wongso guilty of murdering Salihin.

Wongso considered the ruling unfair, as there was a lack of evidence from eyewitnesses that could prove that she had spiked Salihin's coffee with cyanide when they shared a table at the Olivier Cafe in Central Jakarta on Jan 6.

Wongso has been serving her sentence at the Pondok Bambu prison.
