REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto has disclosed the plan of cooperation among neighboring countries to prevent the emergence of radical movements in the country.

Wiranto said at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday that the discourse emerged following the information that terrorist group ISIS had shifted its base to Marawi of the Philippines.

"There is a discourse to help each other in this issue. For instance, I had a talk with Australia. There was also a meeting between the Philippines and Indonesia, and many other countries have the same interest regarding this terror base in Marawi," Wiranto stated.

He noted that the cooperation would be based on a principle that terrorism could not be handled by a single country alone.

"President Duterte has also given a green light for receiving help from other countries," he added.

Wiranto admitted that there were certain mechanism that should be followed in the cooperation. "Of course, there are mechanisms, procedures in giving aids, and cooperation in military operation."

"There will be a meeting in Manado in July. It will be attended by six countries, including New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines to discuss the issue," he remarked.

Wiranto noted that cooperation to counter terrorism in Southeast Asia was a reasonable move.

"It would need to follow procedures. The Philippines has its own procedures, and Indonesia and Malaysia also have it. Each country should maintain its own procedures," Wiranto revealed.
