REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA – Papua Provincial Police Chief Boy Rafli Amar discussed labor issues with PT Freeport Indonesia’s management in a visit to Tembagapura. He said the police committed that the resolution of the strikes of thousands of PT Freeport and its sub-contractor companies’employees should be taken based on Law on Labor.

“We discuss the recent situation and condition, including labor issues. We let it be solved through mechanism stated on labor law,” said Boy.

He expected that all related parties would refrain and avoid any violation of law. He exemplifies the resolution through tripartite roles to function.

The former spokesperson of National Police asserted that dignified resolution was needed. It was conducted by prioritize mechanism and legal path.

“The society may not take any anarchist action or being provoked,” he said.

He also expected that the mediation by Papuan House of Representatives (DPRD) on July 10 in Jayapura would conducted peacefully and put forward the legal path. All the invited parties should keep the peaceful atmosphere and avoid any anarchical action.

Previously, thousands of PT Freeport and its subcontractor companies’ employees conducted a strike during April to May 2017. The companies assumed that the employees had voluntary resigned as they ignored several invitation for discussion.
