Danish investor wants to build power plant in North Sumatra

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LANGKAT -- An investor from Denmark Investor has indicated interest in building a hydro power plant in the district of Langkat, North Sumatra.

"It is true, there have been offers from an investor from Denmark to build a hydro power plant in Langkat," district administration secretary Indra Salahuddin said in Stabat on Wednesday.

The investment proposed by the Danish investor would help boost economic development in Langkat at least in electricity sector, Indra said.

"They said Langkat could be a power generating center for North Sumatra," he added.

He said the proposal is interesting but the district administration has yet to discuss details of the offer.

Meanwhile, Hendrik Pryter, the spokesman of the investor Azrarie said the company wanted to cooperate with the district administration in developing hydro power generating plant.

The district of Langkat is strategic in location for investment in hydro power sector, Hendrik said.

He said his company would pay for all cost, but the district administration should provide the location, close to a river.

"Hopefully the plan could become a reality," he said.
