REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANOKWARI -- The West Papua provincial government has instructed all residents, government and private agencies, and state-and regional government-owned companies to hoist the Red and White flags for one month as of Aug 1.
"The instruction comes from the central government. Starting from Aug 1, the Red and White flags must be raised in front of residents' houses and offices. Without any exception, the flags must be raised for one full month," Chief of the Public Relations and Protocol Section at the West Papua Regional Secretariat Penina Maabuat said here on Wednesday.
The instruction is aimed at enlivening the commemoration of the 72nd anniversary of Indonesia's independence, which falls on Aug 17, he stated.
The government wants all elements of the community to greet the momentum of independence joyfully, he remarked.
The commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day this year is different from that of the previous years. This year, all residents are required to raise the Red and White for one month as of Aug 1.
"In the previous years, we hoist the Red and White flag one week before Aug 17," he remarked.
