REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Lawyer Achmad Michdan planned to send a letter to President Joko Widodo on behalf of his client, KH Abu Bakar Ba'asyir. He said the cleric Ba'asyir's health has been worsening.
Therefore, he would seek wisdom from the president. He hoped his client could be returned to the family or to live the rest of his sentence near the family.
Michdan said he has filed the same request to the Supreme Court and Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
"May there be a wisdom. We will send letter to the president," he said at the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee's (MER-C) office, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (August 12).
Michdan said, at the age of almost 80, cleric Ba'asyir is often sick. A couple days ago he was rushed to the hospital for swelling in the legs. This condition has been suffered by the leader of Jamaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT) for the past two years.
"His intra venous is not strong enough to pump blood up and it causes swollen feet," Presidium of MER-C, Doctor Jose Rizal Jurnalis, added.
MER-C was appointed by the family to explain latest health condition of cleric Ba'asyir after being treated at Harapan Kita Hospital on Thursday (August 10).
According to Michdan, cleric Ba'asyir who was born at Agustus 17, 1938 could not take care of himself independently in his isolation cell. He needed to be close to his family in order to get better health treatment, Michdan said.
"We hope the government will consider our request based on humanitarian aspect. We seek for a humane policy, may be he could be brought back to the family," cleric's third son, Abdul Rochim Ba'asyir said.
South Jakarta District Court judge sentenced cleric Ba'asyir to 15 years in prison in 2011. The Assembly assessed Ba'asyir proved to create an atmosphere of terror with holding military training at Bukit Jalin Jantho, Aceh.
The Assembly also assessed Ba'asyir proved to plan military training with Dulmatin. They discussed the plan near Al Mukmin Ngruki Boarding School in Solo, Central Java, in February 2009. Ba'asyir is now in solitary confinement at Mount Sindur prison, Bogor to live the remain of the sentence.
