REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JEMBER -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) distributed 2,850 land certificates to residents in Jember District, East Java, on Sunday.

"Land certificate is important. I always find land dispute in any part of the country I have visited. The dispute, among others, is between the people and institutions or between the people and the government, companies and others," the president said at the New Sari Utama Conventin Hall building here on Sunday.

He said this year the government had worked out a program to be carried out across the country where every year at least 5 million certificates will be distributed.

If a resident already hold a certificate, others can no longer claim it because he or she already has proof of ownership, Jokowi said.

The distribution of the certificates was marked with the handing over symbolically of the land documents to 12 recipients.

The 2,850 certificates were given to recipients in eight districts/municipalities in East Java, namely the districts/municipalities of Jember with 1,100 recipients, Banyuwangi (300 recipients), Probolinggo (400), Lumajang (250), Bondowoso (250), Pasuruan (200), Probolinggo city (250) and Situbondo (150).

During his visit to Jember, Jokowi also attended the opening ceremony of Jember Fashion Carnival held in Jember City.

According to Bey Machmudin of the Press and Media Affairs of Presidential Secretariat here on Sunday, Jokowi and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo witnessed the 16th Fashion Carnaval themed "Victory" in Jember City Square.

The president, accompanied by the first lady, is conducting a working visit to Jember City of East Java Province.

President will also deliver a public lecture to students in Muhammadiyah University of Jember before returning to Jakarta on Sunday afternoon.
