REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police have arrested Anwar Sadiq alias Muang Muang Tin, a citizen of Myanmar, for human trafficking.
"Anwar Sadiq, a fugitive of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, was named in a human trafficking case that occurred in November 2015," Senior Commissioner Ferdi Sambo, head of the sub-directorate of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department, revealed here, Tuesday.
Sadiq, belonging to the Rohingya tribe, was detained in the Kalideres area, West Jakarta, on Monday evening.
Using a speedboat, he had attempting to smuggle out 16 foreigners hailing from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh to Australia's Christmas Island on November 26, 2015.
The speedboat "Farah," however, had run out of fuel and was stranded in Tabulolong Village, East Nusa Tenggara.
The 16 foreigners did not have passports and were later detained at the immigration office in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.
