REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURAKARTA -- Indonesia's Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has expressed his commitment to closely observing all projects of the ministry following the alleged graft case in the institution.

"Earlier, I had focused on monitoring, but in future, I will watch them closely and scrutinize all projects of the ministry," Sumadi informed the press here, Friday.

The minister made the statement after a meeting with Surakarta Mayor F. X. Hadi Rudyatmo to discuss the construction of public transportation infrastructure to link the Adi Soemarmo Airport.

The alleged graft case involving the ministry's director general of sea transportation should be viewed as offering the necessary momentum and serving as a warning to improve monitoring in each unit of the ministry, Sumadi remarked.

"Once again, I have expressed my concern over this, and I have committed to watching closely all running projects," he added.

The minister claimed that the project in question under the sea transportation directorate general has run through its legal procedures.

However, he will review the implementation of the project.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Director General of Sea Transportation Antonius Tonny Budiono as a suspect in an alleged graft case related to the licensing and procurement of goods and services in the projects under the directorate general during the 2016-2017 period.

The anti-graft body has also named Commissioner of PT Adhi Guna Keruktama Adiputra Kurniawan as a suspect in the case.

During its raid on Wednesday and Thursday, the KPK had seized four debit cards; 33 bags loaded with cash totaling Rp18.9 billion in various currencies, including in rupiah, US dollar, pound sterling, euro, and Malaysian ringgit; and Rp1.174 billion in a savings account in the Mandiri Bank.

Kurniawan had allegedly paid the bribe to Budiono for the dredging project at the Tanjung Mas Port in Semarang, Central Java.

"Mr Tonny said there is nothing wrong with the project, and the money that he received was a 'token of appreciation.' However, the amount is too high," Sumadi added.
