REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a 6.2 Richter scale seismic activity in North Korea on Sunday at 10.30 local time.
"The BMKG's earthquake monitoring network recorded an unusual seismic activity," the officer of Earth Quake and Tsunami Center of BMKG, Mochammad Riyadi, said on a press release received here on Sunday.
At least 166 seismic sensors belonging to the agency noted an earth quake of a magnitude 6.2 Richter Scale occurring in the area located at 41.29 north latitude and 128.94 west longitude one kilometer deep.
Riyadi said other monitoring agencies also recorded the "earth quake", such as the United States Geological Survey (USGS), GeoForschungsZentrum of Germany, and Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The agency noted a seismic data that showed a compression source with the P wave amplitude being higher than the S wave to indicate a subsurface explosion.
The Shake map showed the tremor had caused severe shocks in several areas around the epicentrum including cities of Cho Dong, Soman and Nampyo Dong.
Riyadi said the jolt could create minor damages including cracks in building.
