REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia views North Korea to have disrupted peace with its nuclear weapon test on Sunday.
"It is obvious. The nuclear test has heated up regional tension," Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Security, Political and Legal Affairs, Wiranto, stated here on Monday.
In view of that, according to the former defense forces commander, the sixth nuclear test carried out by North Korea so far can not be justified and had even been prohibited by any country in the world.
Witanto stated that the Indonesian government has denounced the action of the country led by Kim Jong-un.
"We have always been consistent in opposing activities that would threaten regional security. We have always given our condemnation to countries that do not adhere to international agreement," he noted.
The Indonesian government has earlier, through its foreign ministry, issued a statement denouncing the North Korean nuclear test as it released various radioactive materials that could threaten the environment and the health of population in various countries.

It has also emphasized that the test is against North Korean obligations to meet related resolutions issued by the UN Security Council.
Indonesia, as a country that has ratified Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, is committed to promote world peace away from any kind of nuclear test and explosion.
In view of that, it has reiterated the importance of stability in the Korean peninsula and asked all parties to contribute to creating peace, including by creating a nuclear-free Korean peninsula.
