REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Police personnel in all regions across the country were ordered to check the circulation of paracetamol caffeine carisoprodol (PCC), in order to prevent the distribution of the dangerous drug.

Spokesman of National Police (Polri), Inspector General Setyo Wasisto, stated that Polri Chief General Tito Karnavian had ordered the police to monitor the distribution of the hazardous PCC drug.

"The Chief of Police has instructed all the police to carry out operations to comb their respective areas for PCC pills," Wasisto noted in Jakarta on Monday.

According to him, the number of victims of PCC drug abuse in Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) has increased to 76 people. "We can get info from Sultra that there are 76 victims," he added.

Independent Policy Analyst of the Public Relations Division of Polri, Senior Commissioner Slamet Pribadi, remarked that there were no areas of PCC abuse cases other than Southeast Sulawesi. "Not yet, (there are no reports) yet of such cases in other areas," Slamet revealed.

Tens of teenagers were rushed to a hospital in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Province's capital, recently after taking PCC pills, Head of the Kendari office of BPOM, Adillah Pababbari stated, adding that they had consumed the illegal drug.

"This PCC tablet is an illegal drug without authorization for distribution from the BPOM, as it contains carisoprodol substance sold individually," Pababbari explained in Kendari on Thursday, while delivering a press statement addressing the case that occurred in Kendari in the past few days. The new type of PCC drug was reported to have claimed the life of one of its victims in Southeast Sulawesi.
