REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla has asked ministers who will run for the governorship to resign from the Working Cabinet soon.
"They need to campaign, don't they? If they campaign, then they must quit from the Cabinet," he said after inspecting the renovation project at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium here on Tuesday.
If they resign, then President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) can soon inaugurate their successors, he said.
Several ministers are prepared to run for the governorship. They are Social Service Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa who will run for the East Java governorship and Minister of Cooperatives, Micro Small and Medium Businesses Puspayoga who will run for the Bali governorship.
Kalla said on Sept 29 that Khofifah has informed President Jokowi of her plan to run for the East Java governorship for the third time.
Responding to the issue, Kalla said it is the political right of Khofifah to run for the governorship so that all sides must respect her decision.
