REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUMENEP -- President Joko Widodo said he believed land certification would reduce land disputes that have often happened in the country so far.
"Almost every time I came to regions I heard land disputes. It is not only in Kalimantan but also in Java, Sumatra, Madura, Sulawesi, Maluku," he said when distributing land certificates to people in Madura here on Sunday.
He said disputes occurred because people had no certificates as evidence for their land ownership.
"But now after they have, no others can claim ownership. Disputes may happen not only with neighbors but also with the government or companies. There are a lot of cases of land disputes. But if one has had this certificate no other party will be able to claim it," he said.
On the occasion President Jokowi asked those who have had certificates to take care of the document well.
"Wrap it with plastic cover and keep in a special place and have a photocopy of it for use in the process of making a new one by National Land Agency (BPN) in case the original one is lost. If there is no cooy of it it will be difficult for BPN to trace it," he said.
President Jokowi had also ordered the ministry of agrarian and spatial order affairs/BPN to immediately finish land certification in the country.
So far only 400,000 to 500,000 certificates could be finished in a year but this year the president had asked minister Sofyan Djalil to finish up to five million certificates.
"Next year it must be increased to seven million and the year after nine million to quickly reduce land disputes," he said.
President said that the certificates could be kept or used as a collateral to get bank loans.
"You may use it as a collateral to get a loan from bank. However you must be very careful with your decision. You must not give it to bank for a loan of Rp300 million or Rp150 million just to buy a car," he said.
"You must use the loan fully for a working capital for business and not for buying a motorcycle or a car. If you make profit, save it and only after you have saved a lot could you then buy a car," he said.
