Jonan officiates 350-MW power projects

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM -- Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Ignasius Jonan inaugurated power plant projects worth Rp6 trillion that have a combined capacity of 350 megawatts (MW) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) here, Friday.

The inauguration was also attended by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Secretary of NTB Regional Government Royadi H Sayuti, member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) H Kurtubi, and President Director of state-owned power company PT PLN Sofyan Basir.

ESDM Minister Ignasius Jonan said the power plants were built in NTB and NTT to accelerate the provinces' electrification ratios.

"The government is committed to improve its electrification ratio, which has exceeded 93 percent. It is a remarkable growth and is expected to increase further to 97 percent by the end of 2019," he remarked.

Jonan also revealed that to increase the electrification ratio, the PLN was allowed to build off-grid rural electricity, beyond the electricity supply business plan, so that the increase in electrification ratio could be accelerated.

He also expressed his appreciation to the local government and the PLN for cooperating in the process of building the power plants.

"We are grateful for the support of NTB and NTT, because this development was very fast, and it has ensured that the PLN continues to provide efficiency so the electricity tariffs do not rise," he mentioned.

The minister inaugurated seven power plant projects, namely the Lombok Peaker Power and the Steam Power Plant (PLTGU), Bima Gas ower Plant (PLTMG), Sumbaya PLTMG, and the IPP Lombok Timur PLTU. The four projects are located in NTB.

Three other power plant projects were developed in NTT, namely Kupang Peaker PLTMG, Flores Mobile Power Plant (MPP) and Maumere MLTMG.

The Lombok Peaker PLTGU development project with a capacity of 150MW is located in Tanjung Karang Village, Mataram City.

Its investment value reached Rp1.6 trillion and will absorb 390 manpower. It is expected to be on Commercial Operation (COD) in February 2019.

The Bima PLTMG project is located in Bonto Village, Asakota District, Bima city, with a capacity of 50MW. The total investment is Rp637 billion and will absorb about 300 workers. The Bima PLTMG is expected to be on COD in October 018.

The Sumbawa PLTMG project with a capacity of 50MW is located in Labuan Badas Village of Sumbawa District. The investment value is more than Rp744 billion and will absorb 285 laborers. The project is targeted for completion in October 2018.

The Lombok Timur PLTU IPP with a capacity of 2x25MW is located in Padakguar Village, Sambalia District, East Lombok District. The total investment value is Rp1.2 trillion with a total of 1,200 employees absorbed in the construction phase and 470 workers during the commercial operation.

Kupang Peaker PLTMG project with a capacity of 40MW is located in Panaf hamlet, West Kupang Subdistrict, Kupang District.

The project with an investment of Rp700 billion is targeted to be completed by November 2018, with a total of 300 workers to be absorbed.

Flores's Mobile Power Plant (MPP) project with a capacity of 20MW is located in Rangko Hamlet, Boleng District, West Manggarai District. The project has an investment of more than Rp427 billion and absorbed up to 210 people during the construction period and 25 during the operational phase.

The 40MW Maumere project is located in Hoder Village, Waigete District, Sikka-Flores District. The construction of the power plant required 285 workers and had an investment value of more than Rp694 billion.

Meanwhile, PLN's President Director Sofyan Basir explained that Indonesia's electricity condition was in good shape. There has been no blackout due to power deficit, he added.

The entire PLN's large electrical system has a power surplus, and some areas have a margin reserve of more than 30 percent.

"The PLN is ready to serve the demand for electricity supply, and we hope that sufficient power supply can be utilized as well, especially by the industry," he said.
