REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Sections 1b and 1c, measuring 8.26 kilometers (km) in length, of the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) Toll Road on Friday morning.
The president said the Becakayu toll road will facilitate the residents of Bekasi and its surrounding areas to gain easy access to and from Jakarta.
"Construction of the rest of the toll road that leads to Bekasi and Tambun will be continued, so that access from Bekasi to Jakarta will become easier," Jokowi said while commissioning sections 1b and 1c of the Becakayu Toll Road.
He remarked that commercial operations of Becakayu will begin on Saturday (Nov. 4).
"This project had been stalled for 21 years, and the order letter for its construction had been issued in 1996," the president noted.
Jokowi said the project was restarted in 2015.
"These (two sections) have been completed and will be continued until the sections leading to Bekasi and Tambun, so that access from Bekasi to Jakarta will become easier," he added.
Construction of the Becakayu toll road is being carried out in phases, with Section I stretching 11.9 km; Section II, 4.1 km; and Section III, with a length of 7.8 km.
