REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Sub-directorate II Cybercrime Directorate of National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit Senior Commissioner Asep Safrudin said, the police will continue investigation on the case of Setya Novanto (Setnov)'s meme.
Nevertheless, the police have not found new suspect in the case reported by the Setnov's lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi.
"There has been no new suspect," he said on Wednesday.
According to Asep, the ground basis of investigation was a report filed by House speaker's lawyer. If there is new evidence, the preliminary investigation would be upgraded into full investigation, he explained.
Asep said, every citizen may file a police report if they feel offended by any post on social media. The police would evaluate the report.
"Basically, it was based on report. When there is a report from citizen, there must be a follow-up from the police," he said.
So far, the police have named one suspect, namely Dyan Kemala Arrizzqi.
On November 1, National Police received reports from Frederic Yunadi as Setnov lawyer on 32 social media accounts that spread memes related to his client. Of the 32 accounts, nine accounts allegedly insulted Setnov.
The police have detained Dyan Kemala Arrizzqi for spreading meme of Setnov while he was hospitalized with sleep apnea mask.
Meanwhile, vice president Jusuf Kalla stated the police have made inappropriate move with continuing Setnov's memes case.
According to Kalla, circulation of Setnov's memes tagging the power of Setnov was a form of expression of public distrust to Setnov's condition. Moreover, he was hospitalized after being named suspect in e-ID card graft case then he filed a pre-trial suit against it and won the motion.
