REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated, most of conflicts and separatism were not motivated by ideological nor religious differences. He said, economic factor played the role.

"What's the trigger of separatism? Was it because we don't memorize Pancasila? I don't think so. Almost all of cases occurred because of economic problems," he said during a speech before Lemhanas workshop participants at Vice Presidential Palace on Monday.

Kalla explained, divisions among society happened because of social injustice and economic disparities between regions.

He reiterated, economic problems could also lead to the fall of a government.

He reminded that two orders fell because of economic crisis.

 "In the end of Bung Karno era, our inflation rate almost 100 percent. Oil and rice prices were increased. The New Order ended also because of economic crisis, where our inflation rate 75 percent, exchange rate against US dollar reached Rp17,000 and unemployment was enormous," he said.

Therefore, Kalla remarked, economic stability has become the challenge to every government from time to time.

"So, I call on the whole generation not only to focus on strengthening the understanding of Pancasila as ideology, but also to work together to create a fair and prosperous economy," he said.
