Mount Sinabung releases volcanic material again

Mount Sinabung volcano erupts volcanic material, in Karo, North Sumatra, Saturday (September 16). The activity of Mount Sinabung status of alert (level IV) increases, marked by eruption and glide of hot clouds. On Thursday (November 23), Mount Sinabung erupts again.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARO -- Mount Sinabung in Karo district, North Sumatra, continued to show its volcanic activity. The mountain which was still on alert status or level IV was re-erupting volcanic material today, Thursday (November 23).

Head of Sinabung Volcano Monitoring Post, Armen Putra said today's eruption occurred at 11:13 pm. The mountain was observed catapulting volcanic ash to 2 kilometers.

"The eruption of Sinabung volcano occurred with a 2,000 meter high ash column," Armen said on Thursday (November 23).

He said, during eruption, an earthquake occurred for 276 seconds. The wind was blowing weakly toward the southeast to east. Currently, Sinabung mountain peak is clearly visible with the sunny weather.

Armen also urged people to stay away from Sinabung red zone that has been established by the government. 

Residents and tourists were asked not to be near danger zones due to hot clouds, lava eruptions and potential eruptions continued to occur.

In addition, residents in the vicinity of Sinabung also asked to be wary of volcanic ash carried by the wind during outdoor activities.

"Stay away from the red zone of Mount Sinabung, use a mask as well and avoid it because it is rainy season," said Armen.
