REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Police have sought confirmation on the death of Indonesian commander of the terrorist organization ISIS Bahrun Naim.

"We are seeking confirmation on this piece of information," Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul, a spokesman of the Indonesian Police, remarked here, Monday.

The police have coordinated with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Indonesian Police Attaché in Turkey, and Interpol to seek clarification on the issue.

"We have worked in coordination with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and all access that we have," he noted.

Martinus admitted that the police had received the information on social media.

The police have accused Naim of being the mastermind behind the bomb attack in the Thamrin area, Jakarta, in January 2016 in which eight people, including four perpetrators, were killed.

Naim was a leader of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah that recruited terrorists from Indonesia.

Naim has frequently shared information on bomb-making through the organization's Telegram group.

Naim was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison by the Surakarta District Court in 2010 for possession of illegal firearms. Following his release in June 2012, the police suspected Naim of traveling to Syria in 2015 after becoming a disciple of master recruiter and terror convict Aman Abdurrahman while serving in prison.
