REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Kiai Ma'ruf Amin has invited all religious people to join United Indonesia Action for Palestine, also popular as 1712 action, at the Embassy of the United States and around National Monument on Sunday (December 17). He said, defending Palestine is the obligation for all Indonesian people.
He also said that Palestine helped Indonesia in the independence period. According to him, all elements of this nation have to defend Palestine from colonialism and all kind of unfair treatments.
"We also invite all Indonesian people, including from non-Muslims to come together and show our humanity and unity of Indonesian to defend Palestine," Kiai Ma'ruf said on Thursday (December 14).
Kiai Ma'ruf also called out the millions of Muslims who will attend 1712 action to keep their best attitude in protesting United States (US) President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
He said, although Muslims in Indonesia are deeply offended by Trump's decision, the people still need to be calm.
"Everyone who attend 1712 action should not cause provocation, chaos and also say harsh or rude words. We need to be polite and maintain "akhlakul karimah" attitude as good Muslims in our nation," Kiai Ma'ruf added.
MUI invited all stakeholders, including mass organizations, figures, diplomats, and the public to attend the gathering to show solidarity with palestine. The gathering will start at 05.00 am.
According to MUI, the US unilateral recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital is not religiously motivated. It was the systematic colonisation of Palestine, which must be opposed by the world community.
