REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the construction of double track railways that connecting Sukabumi to Bogor in West Java. He said, the double track railways will reduce traffic jam on many streets.
"Later we will be able to increase train trips to six or more from three, while the number of passengers may became at least 11,000 from 3,000. So, automatically it will reduce traffic jam," Jokowi said on Friday (December 15).
Jokowi shared his story when travelling from Bogor to Sukabumi by car and it took about six hours. He said, although the distance was only 60 kilometres, the travel time was quite long because the traffic jam.
Therefore, the government prioritizes the development of transportation infrastructure in Sukabumi by constructing Bogor Ciawi Sukabumi (Bocimi) toll road. He expected, it would be completed in October 2019.
The construction of a double railway is aimed at improving people's mobility and economic development in Sukabumi. The government undertook the construction of the first phase of the Cigombong-Cicurug double-track segment of seven kilometers.
In addition, the segment of Bogor Paledang to Cicurug along 26.7 kilometers is planned to be completed in 2019. Then for the construction of double rail segment Cicurug-Sukabumi along 30.5 kilometers is targeted to be completed by 2020.
The amount of financing for the double track railway construction of the Bogor-Sukabumi railway line comes from the state budget (APBN) of Rp 2.45 trillion, which is carried out in multi-year or multiyear years.
During the celebration of Eid al-Adha last September, Jokowi said that the double track rail connecting Bogor-Sukabumi will be built.
The construction of double track railways is expected to help reduce the burden of roadway. The Sukabumi-Bogor line is connected by a 57-kilometer rail line crossed by diesel trains for passenger trains.
