REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian National Police (Polri) stated that there were no acts of terror during Christmas Day celebrations throughout Indonesia.
"Thank God, the result of security evaluation during Christmas showed that there were no acts of terror recorded," Head of Public Information Bureau of the Public Division of the National Police (Polri) Brigadier General M Iqbal stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Iqbal added that the Police had also noted that there was no coercion from certain parties related to worship during Christmas.
He pointed out there were no acts of force for dismantling certain attributes at shopping centers or places of worship from certain parties.
The Police Spokesman revealed that the Christian congregation held Christmas services on Dec 24 and 25 under safe conditions.
"This is proof that operation management in the upstream areas of crime, including drugs, thugs, and liquors, reduces all forms of offenses," Iqbal remarked.
Iqbal, who is a former head of Surabaya police headquarters, was able to anticipate the action of crime and terror during Christmas.
The police spokesman mentioned that all chiefs of provincial police, district police, and subdistrict police, along with the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) elements and local governments, can synergize and map the area for security.
In addition, Iqbal also appreciated a number of community organizations (mass organizations) involved in securing Christmas services at several places of worship.
"We are different, but still we show that we are a tolerant nation," Iqbal added.
The one-star police general expected the security situation to be conducive until the end of the candle-light operation on Jan 2, 2018.
