REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has strengthened the role of the State's Cyber and Intelligent Agency (BSSN) by stipulating Presidential Regulation No. 133 of 2017.
"This is a very important agency, and in future, it is necessary, especially to take precautionary measures in the face of rapid developments in the cyber world," President Jokowi remarked here on Tuesday.
According to Presidential Regulation No. 133 of 2017 on BSSN, the agency directly comes under the president and is accountable to him. Earlier, the agency was under the coordinating minister for political, legal, and security affairs.

The presidential regulation was signed by President Joko Widodo on December 16, 2017.
The head of state remarked that the regulation strengthens the role and function of the BSSN.
The Cabinet Secretariat had earlier noted that in addition to placing BSSN directly under the president, the institution now also has a deputy head as a part of its leadership.
The establishment of the BSSN was based on Presidential Regulation No. 53 of 2017 that was signed on May 19, 2017.
The BSSN is responsible for detecting and preventing cybercrimes and maintaining cybersecurity in effective and efficient ways by utilizing, developing, and consolidating all components related to cybersecurity.
