REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARAWANG -- The Indonesian government would implement modernization process to promote agricultural as a profession among the youth.
"There are only few young people who are interested to be farmers. It is because agriculture is considered as a sector that is unfavorable and tiring," Agricultural Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said here on Wednesday.
However, Sulaiman added that the government would restore the image of farming to be a modern and prosperous sector.
The government will support farmers with modern tools and high technology to cultivate the fields.
"We will distribute the cultivation machines and pest-resistant seeds to enable production of 9-10 tons of products per hectare of field," Amran remarked.
Thus, the agricultural sector can be more developed and modernized to encourage the involvement of more youths.
The government will also halt the import of some commodities, including rice, to develop local products.
