REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi believes that the Indonesian troops for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions are one of the assets for Indonesian diplomacy in the international arena.
"Our diplomacy is conducted not only by Indonesian diplomats but also by involving other stakeholders, such as the Indonesian peacekeepers," she noted during the opening of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' exhibition at the ministry's main building in Jakarta on Monday to highlight the entity's achievements in the past three years.
On the occasion, Marsudi also expressed gratitude to all sections of the Indonesian nation and various stakeholders that have facilitated the implementation of Indonesia's foreign policy, including the Indonesian peacekeeping forces.
"I thank the Indonesian peacekeepers who have clearly demonstrated that Indonesia also contributes to world peace," she stated.
The Indonesian government has set a target of sending four thousand UN peacekeepers until late 2019.
Indonesia is included among the 12 largest nations contributing to the UN peacekeeping missions.
In addition to participating actively in global peacekeeping operations, Indonesia is active in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals that ended in 2015 and continues to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals until 2020.
