REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Police Chief Insp. Gen. Idham Aziz has instructed all ranks and files of the Jakarta Police to identify disaster-prone areas in Jakarta and its vicinity. Yuwono noted that the Jakarta Police chief had led the meeting attended by all senior officers and Polres leaders to discuss efforts to take precautionary measures against natural disasters and flooding.

"Jakarta Police's Operation Bureau chief, after a meeting, sent telegram messages to all District Police (Polres) to identify locations prone to flooding," Jakarta Police Spokesman Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.

All Polres and Sub-district Police (Polsek) offices are requested to work together with the Indonesian Defense Forces, local governments, and disaster mitigation agencies.

Police personnel are also requested to provide information to residents, so that they would remain vigilant against the threat of floods in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. Police personnel have been mobilized in flood-affected areas to provide evacuation assistance to move people to safer places.

The volume of water at the Katulampa Dam in Bogor, West Java, has continued to increase, causing the Ciliwung River to overflow its banks and flood East Jakarta's areas of Kp Melayu on Monday.

Kampung Melayu Village Head Setiawan noted on Monday that floods had affected four neighborhoods (RWs): RW 04, RW O5, RW 07, and RW O8. "Some parts of Kampung Melayu areas are flooded. The water began to flood the areas at 3 a.m. local time," Setiawan stated.

Water levels in the flooded areas of Kampung Melayu ranged between 60 and 100 centimeters, but residents have not yet decided to evacuate.

Senior official of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho remarked in a press release that heavy rains had fallen since Sunday in the upstream areas of the Ciliwung River in Bogor, thereby leading to a rise in the water level at the Katulampa Dam in Bogor to reach 240 centimeters at 9:05 a.m. local time, as the Ciliwung River swelled significantly.

The Katulampa Dam was on Alert Level 1, or the highest level, Nugroho noted in a statement.
