REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported here on Tuesday that some 11,450 people have been affected by the flash flood. About 6,532 of them have been evacuated to several emergency camps in Jakarta.

"According to the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the flash flood has hit 141 areas in 12 sub-districts of East Jakarta, South Jakarta, and West Jakarta," the BNPB spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in his written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Thousands of houses have been affected, he stressed. "However, the residents chose to stay at their homes, but their furniture have been moved to safety," he remarked.

According to the latest record, some 2,632 evacuees are in Jakarta; 1,057 of them are in Jatinegara Sub-district; and 1,575 in Kramat Jati Subdistrict.

Meanwhile, the other 3,900 evacuees are staying at seven areas in South Jakarta. In Pancoran Sub-district alone, some 3,200 people have been affected by the flood, and the other 700 are found in Tebet Sub-district. "We have distributed the logistics to the evacuees; up until today, the situation remains under control," Nugroho noted.

Following the flash floods, the disaster mitigation agencies have opened 31 public facilities, including mosques, halls, and government offices, for the evacuees. "The national disaster mitigation agency will assist its Jakarta Office (BPBD) in easing the impacts on the flash flood, while supporting the basic needs of the evacuees," Nugroho remarked.

He further called on people to stay alert in anticipating floods, landslides, and storms that may occur this month, mainly in Java.

"The threats (of the disasters) will increase (during the peak of rainy season this month)," he reiterated.
