REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Commission Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said the invitation he received from the government of Indonesia indicated that the country is serious in carrying out its obligations to protect human rights. He said the invitation by the Indonesian government showed that it is open to dialogue and build the spirit for cooperation to make certain support and protection for human rights for all.

"All countries have human rights obligations and many countries have achieved extraordinary targets. However, all countries,without exception, face human right challenges to deal with," Zeid said in a news conference here on Wednesday.

Zeid said during his visits, he had heard aspirations of various groups of community in the country. He had paid a courtesy call on President Joko Widodo and a number of the country's high state officials, National Human Rights Agency and related organizations and agencies in Indonesia.

He said he saw Indonesia has grown fast in short time, adding, currently Indonesia is one of the most progressive in the region in human right protection.

"Active involvement of Indonesia in overcoming bad condition experience by Rohingya Muslims deserves appreciation and is very much needed," he said.

He said he also noted that Indonesia taken a big step in protecting community rights over good health care by expanding the scope of universal health services.

The government of Indonesia has made available room and resources for National Commission of Human Rights and Women's National Commission to become a strong and independent national Human Right Agency, he said.

"I suggests the government of Indonesia ensure that important recommendations from the agencies would be implemented," Zeid said.
