REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta government, through the Environment Agency, has taken steps to ensure that the Ciliwung River is now cleared of waste. Three locations in Ciliwung River have been cleaned up. "So now, there is no more garbage," Head of the Jakarta Environment Agency Isnawa Adji stated in Jakarta, Friday.

According to Adji, West Flood Canal, Manggarai Sluice Gate, and Kampung Melayu Bridge are the three locations that have been cleaned up.

"Hence, this morning, we received reports that the three locations along the Ciliwung River were cleared of garbage. The garbage has been removed," Adji noted.

Adji remarked earlier on Thursday that the Jakarta government had cleaned up and disposed some 2,515 tons of waste from the three locations along Ciliwung River.

"Some 1,864 tons of waste was removed from Kampung Melayu Bridge, 555 tons from Manggarai Sluice Gate, and 96 tons from BKB. All of them have been cleaned up," Adji pointed out.

Moreover, he stated that the agency will continue to deploy heavy equipment and workers at the three locations.

"Our officers remain on alert in case the volume or discharge of water from the upstream areas increases, then garbage will flow in here, and we will have to clean it," Adji added.
