REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police spokesman Setyo Wasisto denied the news saying police have hold a meeting to anticipate the return of Habib Rizieq Shihab on the next February 21. In a telegram widely circulated on Monday (Feb 19), National Police chief Tito Karnavian has appointed his deputy Syafruddin to lead video conference meeting to discuss security measure ahead of Habib Rizieq's return.
The meeting was said to be held at 09:00 am on Monday. "No, we did not discuss that (Habib Rizieq's return)," Setyo said on Monday.
According to Setyo, in the video conference meeting, deputy chief Syafruddin instructed all regional and district police's heads to highten the security on places of worship and religious figures in their respectives region.
Setyo explained the measure was taken as a response to a series of assaults to religious places. The incidents have grown into irrelevant issues.
Syafruddin said the discussion did not talk about Rizieq's homecoming. He reiterated that the telegram was incorrect. "It's not true. Today, we discuss security on the places of worship and religious figures," he said.
