REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KARO -- Mount Sinabung in Karo district, North Sumatra, erupted again on Monday (Feb 19) morning. In the last four years, today's eruption was the biggest eruption.
"This morning, the biggest eruption occurred," said National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho on Monday (Feb 19).

Mount Sinabung spew clouds of hot ash that reached approximately 5,000 meters. The clouds of hot ash moved towards south and southeast with a distance of about 1,000 meters and towards northeast with a distance of about 3,500 meters and to the south as far as 4,900 meters.

Following the latest eruption, the alert status in Mount Agung has been upgraded to RED. The eruption was informed to has caused an earthquake that lasted about 607 seconds or 10 minutes.
Mount Sinabung's volcanic ashes cover the street and a resident's car in Tiga Pancur village, Karo, North Sumatera on Monday (Feb 19).
There were rumblings, following the eruption. It could be heard from 8 kilometres distance from the peak. "This happened for first time since 2014, Sutopo added.
