REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Indonesian Navy's Tanjungpiang Main Naval Base personnel have nabbed MV Fu Yu BH 2916, a Taiwanese fishing boat, for operating illegally in Galang Reef waters in Riau Islands District. Indonesia's warship Sigorut 864 intercepted MV Fu YU BH 2916 out of suspicion, Colonel Imam Musani, deputy commander of the Tanjungpinang Main Naval Base IV, told the press, here, on Monday.

The Indonesian Navy detained the ship's 10 crew members, comprising two Taiwanese, one Chinese, four Myanmarese, and three Vietnamese.

The Taiwanese fishing boat was first spotted in Galang Reef Waters by KRI Sigorut, but it tried to escape towards Malaysian and later Singaporean waters while the weather was bad.

KRI Sigorut chased the fishing ship with the support of several other naval ships, namely KRI PRG, KRI KRT, and KAL Anakonda.

"The fishing ship was finally caught by Malaysian APMM," he revealed.

The Indonesian Navy coordinated with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Petir to handover the fishing boat to Indonesia.

The Taiwanese ship did not have its original sailing documents. It also had fish aboard despite not having a permit to carry fish.
