REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Preseiding judge of East Jakarta District Court, Antonius Simbolon has sentenced Jon Riah Ukur Ginting (Jonru) 1 year and 6 months imprisonment. He was found guilty of spreading hate speech.
Jonru has been proven to violate Article 28 paragraph 2 Juncto Article 45 paragraph 2 Number 19 Year 2016 on Amendment of RI Law No. 11/2008 of the Information and Electronic Transaction (ITE), which carries a punishment of two years imprisonment and a Rp 50 million fine. He deliberately spread information through social media that incited hatred in society."

The defendant has been found guilty and committed an offense, he will serve a term of 1 year and 6 months imprisonment and a fine of Rp 50 million," Antonius said on Friday (March 2).

Jonru, a netizen was reported by lawyer Muannas al Aidid in August last year after appearing on a TV talk show. He admitted to write a post questioning the identity of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
He accused that Jokowi was the only president whose parents' identities were unclear. Jonru also criticized people who elected him to such an important position.
Jonru's attorney, Djudju Purwantoro said he would consider first to appeal. He has one week to declare his team's decision.
"We respect the verdict, although many of considerations were normative rather than material evidence. Whether to appeal or not, we will decide it within a week," he said to Republika.co.id.
