Ulemas attack cases are peculiar: Tito Karnavian

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- National Police chief General Tito Karnavian acknowledged a recent series of ulemas attack cases were peculiar. It was unnatural that assailants in the five cases of ulemas attack were all a suspected mentally ill individuals. 

"This is a big question mark," Tito said in a hearing with Commission III House of the Representatives at Parliament complex, Jakarta on Wednesday (March 14).

Tito revealed two cases of attack to the ulemas by people allegedly suffered psychiatric disorder occurred in West Java. Meanwhile, other incidents located in East Java, Jakarta and Aceh respectively one case.

"So far, we have found no connection between each cases," he said.

However, Tito affirmed the case will still be investigated further. He promised the police will continue to deepen the investigation of ulema attack cases.

Special task force has been formed to reveal the case. "Not yet (solved), but it did not mean we did not investigate it. We still working on it," he remarked.

Tito promised to heighten up the security to protect the ulamas.
